Our History

DadsWork is the longest running dad’s organisation in Scotland, based in Prestonpans, East Lothian and has been operating for well over two decades. DadsWork SCIO pride themselves in being a safe place for dads within the community to meet, share their experiences and access support.
DadsWork SCIO are an extremely well respected and established organisation, they have worked with caregiving men and their families in East Lothian for 24 years, and the wider community of Scotland. We started in 2000 in a small room in Musselburgh supporting dads and received our charitable status in 2003. DadsWork were successful in receiving three-year funding from BBC Children in Need and the largest award in Scotland in 2004 of £70,000. DadsWork listened carefully to their community, and developed their services to support the needs of the dads they serve.
In 2008 DadsWork were again successful in securing funds from The National Lottery Fund through Investing in Communities. The award of £283,328 went towards developing new services and continuing to serve their community by offering support to fathers and their families throughout East Lothian.
Since 2014 we have been financially supported by East Lothian Council and now for 2023 – 2025 have a Service Level Agreement in place committing funds of £150,00 for three years alongside a commitment from The National Lottery Fund – Improving Lives Fund of £165.350 stabilising the importance of our services for fathers in East Lothian.
We added a new ante natal programme called Dads2Be East Lothian in 2016 preparing new expectant dads for fatherhood. In 2020 we incorporated the Men’s Shed programme into our services.
DadsWork (Charity no. SCO34170) relaunched with no change to its services or work as DadsWork SCIO (Charity no. SC051771) in 2022.
